Blackberry Storm is Lightening Fast – Upgrade Blackberry Version to Improve Performance

Share

I was finding the performance of my BlackBerry Storm a little sluggish. Responses to keyboard clicks were slower than usual.

After the first hand review of the Blackberry Storm within a few days, I got quite used to the features that make the Blackberry different from the rest.

Like the clickable screen. Although I started to see dust gather along the four sides of the screen, the technical people at Verizon’s helpdesk said that it is not something I should get worried about.

And then, the Copy-Paste function. Today, the first thing that anyone using a computer learns is copying & pasting using Control-C & Control-V. iPhone has a separate application that allows the user to copy & paste lines.

I have loaded only specific applications on my Blackberry Storm. That includes the Yahoo! Mobile Messenger, Google Talk & Viigo.

When I upgraded my Blackberry Storm OS to version 4.7, many of the performance issues vanished. The upgrade also patched up the Java code along with some security patches.

There are only 2 issues you have to keep in mind before you upgrade. The first is that you should have more than 50% charge on your battery. This is easy to see from the battery power indicator on the screen.

The second key issue is to have about 2 – 3 MB of RAM available to allow for the upgrade. Even if you have a media card, Blackberry Strom will not share memory between the RAM & the external media card. The way to check available RAM is to click the Memory tab in the Options Menu.

If you are running Yahoo! Mobile Messenger like I was, you might be in for a shock! Yahoo! Messenger takes up an incredible amount of memory & does not free this memory as long as it is running.

If your Blackberry Storm upgrade fails due to having less memory, the easiest action you can take is to Reset the Blackberry Storm. You open the back cover, remove the battery & wait for 30 seconds (not less than that) before you put the put the battery back & power up again.

Resetting the Blackberry Storm frees up all the RAM. You should re-check the Memory tab in the Options Menu again to verify that the available RAM memory on Blackberry Storm has now increased.

Once upgraded, the Blackberry Storm is now lightening fast. Not only has the response to the keyboard screen clicks improved, but there is a great improvement to the overall performance of the Storm.

What is the name of the iPhone application that allows the user to copy & paste lines? Is it available at the iPhone Store?

  2. Ranjay Mitra says:

Its an open source framework called Open Clip. You can download & use the iPhone Open Clip Copy & Paste functions for free.
