Blog Search Tools - find search blog popularity, blog search trends and blog post search volumes in blog posts

28 April 2008 26 views No Comment

Even though blogs have been in the industry for almost 10 years now, their popularity is just rising as the new collaboration tool. And there are 3 tools that are gaining a lot of popularity when it comes to finding popular blog posts, popular searches in blogs and trends on what people are writing about.

.

Trendpedia from Attentio , Brussels.

A small fast tool that is launched in 2008 to search only social media - blogs and posts and derives market intelligence. For now they are only reporting out on basic searches. I found the tool quite easy, but at this moment not very helpful in any sort of deeper analysis.

You can enter up to 3 words and phrases to search, and you can add labels to it. Again, the labeling feature is not very helpful since the graphs are already color coded and come with legends.
The interface has options to track and plot 3 words or phrases at one time. There is an option of additional labeling but that is hardly necessary.

The tool reports out in line graph and pie charts. And when you hold the mouse on the graph, it shows you the search volume in absolute numbers. This two way representation is nice. What is not so nice though is that you cannot control the period, or the time line.

The lower part of the tool shows links to the posts where the tool found the relevant search terms. This is a good feature since you can look up any of the data right from the report itself.

A search for the terms New York, San Francisco & London showed the results above. Note the number of posts the tool went through for the search (in the above image) is 154,000.

Blogpulse from Neilsen BuzzMetrics .

Nielsen has been an authority on online trends, analytics and measurements. That makes the Blogpulse information sound very reliable. Their tool is quite simple too, and the Blogpulse website has a Live feature which shows the post volumes in real time.

The Live data is a real time snap shot in a few pre-defined categories Diary, Memes, MoviesTV, Politics & Sports. I liked the feature, but the fact that I cannot set it up for my specific categories, does not help. Although you can identify what people are writing about at any point of time.

The Nielsen Report comes in percentage analysis. While this could indicate a niche space and a niche topic, without a complete picture of what total number the percentage represents, it is hard to make any conclusion.

The feature that I like here is the Date Range. You can chose a period of last 2 months, 3 months or 6 months to plot the analysis. You need to click on any of the graphs to go to the detailed search pages with the links.

.

My suggestion is to use a combination of both the TrendPedia and the BuzzMetrics together to get a better picture of the posts in a relevant category. Either one could lead you to incorrect analysis, but in all possibility the TrendPedia will suffice for most of our needs.
