CEOs & Leaders speak on Blogging - Relationship Building with Blogs
More & more CEOs are now taking up blogging as a preferred means to reaching out & developing a personal relationship with their business associates, customers & employees. CEO could also provide insights into their organizations functioning & at the same time, open up to ideas from around the world to pour in - they might well be thinking of getting rid of the costly & less than effective “surveys” some day!
Having to won a blog is not simple either. Especially when it runs in the name of the CEO. The expectations are quite high & hence CEOs delegating the messaging part down the hierarchy to a group of public relations officers could spoil the game. While some CEO Blogging experts tend to believe that CEOs should focus on the important business of running the business, a badly written post, poorly organized content & failure to post frequently could ruin the image of the organization & definitely harms the CEO’s image.
Technically, blogs could help the organization’s online presence to be felt more effectively. Frequent posting on the blogs & keeping the content unique & current keeps the website on top of Google’s charts. That apart, postings & current affairs keep the buzz alive in the e-world.
A company that tracks CEO & corporate blogs, www.thenewpr.com, estimates that as of early 2008, there are as many as 277 CEO blogs on the internet. You could find some of the more famous people typing away their messages almost regularly on some of them. And many more are joining the team everyday.

While CEOs & the corporate leaders blog mostly for business reasons like relation & image building, customer engagements & road shows, the messages could also prove to be very interesting in building the nations future leaders. I would guess that the CEOs & the leaders would slowly start imparting valuable social & corporate lessons to build a nation’s future generation.

As strong as a CEO is within an organization, they hold strong influential powers in the society as well. By reflecting on their personal thoughts, these leaders could bring around social changes in the much needed areas of global concern. In a very recent incident, the GM VP Bob Lutz’s used his blog to re-instate GM’s commitment to greener cars after one of his casual comments raised a hell storm. In a Feb. 21 post, Lutz used his blog to defend himself after he was criticized for calling global warming “a total crock” & re-instated his commitment to minimize global warming.

A fascinating thing to notice is that some of the CEOs & leaders have been blogging since the late 90s. Stewart Butterfield, President, Ludicorp (Flickr), for example, has been blogging since 4th May 1998. Rajesh Jain, CEO of Netcore has blogging since May 21 1997 while the majority started off between 2003 & 2005.
