Changes to Google Search – Sponsored Ads in Search Box

Previously Google used to provide an option  to see the number of results available for a specific search term. As the user typed the search words in Google, a drop down would tell you how many results are already available for similar words or phrases.

In a recent change Google has introduced Ads or Sponsored links within the search suggestion box, while getting rid of the drop down that showed how many results are available.

This change does not have much benefit to the publishers yet. Google has not mentioned whether similar ads would also appear in Custom Google Searches that many publishers use.

However, it will be a benefit to advertisers – they would show up in the search box, while the user is typing their search query. The picture shows how Pontiac ad could show up while the user is typing in GT8.
