Earning Money from Blogs – Perspective on 6 Figure Income from Blogs
The hot topic in many of the bloggers’ forums have always been how much money does one make with a blog. Recent article in US News had some nice thoughts around How to make money from blogs & How Much Money do Bloggers Make.
If we have to look at blogs as a means of making money, then a blog is not different from another website or maybe just another online business. It is just another page on the web that people read – however the technology made it possible to publish very quickly.
So ideally one would opt for a blog over any other form of online publishing are those people who do not care what technology lie under the web page as long as they can set one up quickly & publish their content in the shortest possible time.
Again, since the current blogging technology also allows for quick & fast integration with social networks, blogs become a promising option for those who operate in large web networks.
If making money is the only objective, then even static html pages could be as effective as blogs. So why would someone think that blogging could be a great way of making money? And if that is true, what features of the blogging technology makes it worth the shot?
1. publish frequently – that keeps your website rated high on search engines. Even then using of ping services are a must & your blog should be Search Engine friendly
2. publish in 2 ways – put up content on your web page (blog post) as well as feed you content to others through syndication feeds (RSS). Many social networks like Facebook has applications like RSS readers to publish your blog posts on your profile too
3. network easily – tie up with other bloggers, exchange feeds, exchange comments & grow your community
Now lets look at the various options that the so called successful bloggers use to make 6 figure earnings. All of them have a few things in common:
1. publish multiple blogs – some even publish over 15 to 20 blogs. The b5Media is now a network of over 350 blogs! With about a thousand dollars from each, the total revenue could exceed half a million dollars a month. Post writers like Windows Live Writer lets you publish many blogs with the same post all at once (similar to viral websites)
2. earn from multiple channels – most bloggers earn just not from Google Adsense or Yahoo! Publishers Network. They also make money from sponsored links, writing product or service reviews that are paid for by the sponsors, resell products or services through affiliate programs & even lends consulting to smaller businesses
3. hard sell products and services – many bloggers sell their own products. One of the most common commodity for sale are the ebooks – you write your own ebook & provide download links for a certain sum of money. A great example with Wordpress bloggers’ community is selling WP Themes & Plugins
There are many more ways to earn from your blog or website, but none of them need to be specific to the technology underlying the website.
Most people start with a blog to express themselves. That’s one of the reasons, the number of blogs run on Wordpress.org or Blogger.com is far higher than those owned by & hosted privately. Blogs hosted on wordpress.com for example are not allowed to display ads. Even then, the popularity is growing by the day.
Blogging for the majority, still remain a way of expressing your own thoughts & ideas. It is just another quick fast networked communication tool. With that in mind, you can still continue to do that & earn some money with advertising.
In a fair estimate, with an about of 20,000 hits a month, you could earn about US $ 800 – US $ 2,000 a month from advertising (impressions & clicks). Add any other income from Amazon sales or any product sales.
So before you kill yourself thinking how “some” bloggers make a 6 figure earning from their blog, think why you are “blogging” in the first place. If making money is the main intention, your whole approch to your website’s (which could be a blog technology or html or any php technology) design, content, frequency of publication, reach & partnership with advertisers would have to be planned, measured & fine tuned accordingly.
