Earning the most from your ads - maximizing ad revenue from your blogs & websites

12 April 2008 14 views No Comment

Space on your blog or website is like real estate on the internet, judicious use could maximize your advertisement revenue. Let me explain what I mean by "maximizing the website and blog’s advertising revenue ".

I have spoken about the various formats (also known as creative ) earlier on advertising-on-your-website-the-first-step-to-monetizing-your-blog . Say you have set up ad banners 160×600 in design. And you have selected to use Google Adsense and Yahoo! Advertising for this space.

Now at any time, both Google Adsense as well as Yahoo! Advertising would have say a thousand advertisers waiting to place their banner or text ads on your website. Not all of the advertisers are paying the publishers (you in this case) the same amount of money for displaying their ads. Some pay more and some pay less. And there beings the competition within the advertisers!

It is much like auction that you could automate with the help of your advertising program. Instead of putting in just the advertising code for Google Adsense or Yahoo! Advertising, you combine the code together and create one single code. Your advertising system will then find out at any given point of time, which advertiser is paying the most for your spot and will display that ad.

Not all advertisers will allow you to maximize your ad revenue. I will take the example of your advertisement revenue. Let me explain what I mean by "maximizing the website and blog’s advertising revenue".

Adbrite
who does allow you to choose between various advertisers and earn the most from your ad space.

The automation is placed under the Pricing tab. Once you have decided on the format of your ad and you have another advertiser (say Google Adsense) also planned for this space, the Pricing option will enable you to do two things:

1. Set a minimum price for your web space. This is mentioned as US dollars for every 1,000 effective page loads (eCPM)

2. Combine Adbrite code and Google Adsense code (and any other advertiser’s code as well) and create one single code that you need to paste on your website.

Combining ads to earn maximum money from advertising

3. Be sure to check Yes on the Reserve Pricing option.

4. Be sure to put a value in the $ field of eCPM. This is what you expect advertisers to pay you for every 1000 times the ads are displayed. To give you a hint, generally an eCPM of anything around US $ 0.50 to US $ 1.00 will help you serve a high percent of paid ads. The number of ads displayed decreases sharply when the eCPM is over US $ 1.50 for most of the advertisers. When there is no ad to serve that could meet your price, free public ads are served to occupy the space. You do not earn any money from those public service ads.

5. Have your advertising code ready from other ad agencies like Google Adsense. Copy the code in the last white space and click on Save button.

This will generate a final piece of code that you need to paste on your website or blog where you want the ad to appear.

Set up a Publisher account with Adbrite and start making money from your websites. The pay rates from Adbrite are a little low (varies from US $0.25 to US $ 1.00 eCPM) but the regulations are very easy and quite helpful if you are just beginning. The best part is that Adbrite is open for new bloggers even when the site hit rates are low!
