Email Newsletters & Email Strategy for Small Business & Home Offices

Share

In my earlier post on an email newsletter system for a small business , I wrote about what you should look for in a cost effective email marketing system .

Constant Contact is a great option to start off with professional newsletters & email contact management .

Another great affordable option is an Email Marketing Service That Allows You To Easily Track Sends, Opens, Clicks, and More.

However, wherever possible use the free trial periods offered by these services to see how convenient they are for your business.

Having a strong email strategy for your small business has multiple benefits:

  • you still get to reach your readers & customers on your schedule
  • you can keep the conversation going with your customers even though there is no immediate sale
  • you can seek valuable feedback from your users & customers
  • you can seek statistical information in the form of polls from your readers
  • you can sell non-competing products to your email readers

One of the mistakes that I commonly see that small business & home professionals make is choosing a product just because it is free & not based on its merits. Off course the price is important, but managing your email poorly weighs much more in the long run.

One of the biggest threshold problem to any small business email marketing is getting readers. You will see the phrase "Double Opt In" being used very frequently. By law, emails have to be subscribed to consciously & then there has to be a second confirmation from the user to start accepting your emails. Above that, every legitimate email should have the option of opting-out of your email list.

Take a moment to look at your own email box – you probably receive over 100 promotional emails daily – and many of them trying to sell you the same product. The only way in which you can make your emails being read & acted upon is to make it useful for the reader. Knowing your users will help you group them into possible categories to target specific groups for promotions .

I find it ridiculous when I get promotional newsletters from a small software product company trying to sell me timeshare condos! Its a bad mistake & will immediately eliminate you from the readership. It is better not to send an email rather than sending one that is useless to your reader. Again, the reader has to find immediate value in your content .

Professional email systems enable you to slide & dice your data to form better understanding of your customers. They give you as close a view as possible of your readers needs & wants. However, any of these systems will only give you data. Your small business email strategy should be strong & reliable to interpret that data & make meaningful information to further your own business.
