Here is an idea - Pay People to Think

11 May 2008 32 views No Comment

You see all these executives trying to sell so hard that they start inflicting both hard and soft injuries on themselves, their colleagues, peers, friends and these pressures to sell work its way into their homes. Families get impacted and over all, over a period of time, these executives lose their ability to think. Why would a saying that "you can sell ice to an eskimo" become such an epitome otherwise?

I think that companies should pay people to think. That’s it!

.

Everybody can think and corporations could benefit if they can listen to their people. I work for a large information technology company and I find it very hard to stop for a moment and think! And when I do, I do not know where to shout! Do not blame it on HR or the fact that you have to know the right people to make it work.

.
If you look at it, now that Apple has changed the way people can share voice and music through iTunes, anyone can share their thoughts and ideas to an even larger audience. Blogging, which simply allows people to do that is turning into a multi-billion dollar international market. Google, that allows employees to think and implement some of their ideas (Orkut.com is a brilliant example), has grown to be one of the largest organizations in as less as 5 years!

.

The companies that can afford to have people to think and yet are thinking of the "loss of productivity" in either employing such or implementing such ideas, will see a lot of attrition. And with technologies enabling more and more people to express themselves, there would be someone, somewhere, listening!

.

So that’s my idea. Where is yours?
