You must have spent a large portion of your life going through the rigors of schools and colleges. Because you were told that education is very important to life - it gives you the ability to read and write, it takes you to places, it makes you a good human being and above all, it gives you the ability to seek out a good job and a lifestyle. But on the internet, there are people who make significant money from people who are ignorant. There is also a handful of people who impose ignorance on them to throw you off guard - what a fantastic idea to attract people!

Wordpress hosts the site http://icanhascheezburger.com/ . This site is about people posting funny pictures of their pets, mostly their cats. They promote themselves as ‘LOLCATS ‘ an acronym for Laughing Out Loud at my Cats . The site thrives from its funny and off beat name - I Can Has Cheezburger & the rather mundane topic. But as long as people like it, everyone wins! And believe it or not, it draws over 500,000 visitors on an average day! I call this Imposed Ignorance . The people knew what they were doing, and there is enough intellect and intelligence behind naming & creating the site as such.

On the other hand, if you misspell http://icanhascheezburger.com/ (which by itself is quite confusing) as:

• http://www.icanhascheeseburgers.com, or even
• http://www.icanhazcheeseburgers.com/

you will land in completely irrelevant pages that will lead you to nowhere. These two are perfect examples of Monetizing Ignorance. Believe it or not, icanhascheeseburgers.com draws about 100,000 visitors on an average day, most of whom have probably heard of I Can Has Cheezburger but never knew how to spell it!

What prompted me to write this post is an advertisement. It seemed to acknowledge the success of I Can Has Cheezburger and also follow in its footsteps. It just copied the LOLCAT theme to promote itself!

Naming your website could be a nightmare and an exhaustive process. Not because it is so hard to find an appropriate name, but because of internet squatters. These are people (and many of them are site registrars) who create a site thinking that someone someday would look for the same website name and would pay them money to buy it over.

Intelligent Squatters look for popular websites and think of possible misspelled versions. They would then create the websites and simply sit back and see traffic coming in. Unless they violate copyrights or pose a security threat to any of the more famous brands or website, they would remain to draw traffic from people who land just from spelling a website incorrectly.
