Internet video views grow 66% YoY - Google launches Insight Analytics to measure video statistics

18 April 2008 11 views No Comment

Early in March 2008, ComScore published the report proclaiming a 66% year on year rise in internet video viewership. With Google’s YouTube gaining the major share of hosting these videos, they have launched Google YouTube Insight on March 28 2008 to track and analyze the data on the videos - who is looking at them, where are they located, whats the duration and other relevant data.

With videos becoming a sole communication media over the internet, the most popular ones are those that are about 2.8 mins (average) duration. That apart, short nicely done videos could be a strong component of your internet publication also. More and more blogs and websites that had to do with tutorials and trainings are now complimenting their internet pages with a video unit.

Here is the link to the official launch message from the Google Product Team.

Anyone with a Google YouTube account could track how their uploaded videos are being used by viewers. YouTube Insight provides video usage information like:

1. how often a video’s viewed in different geographic regions
2. how popular it is relative to all videos in a market over a period of time
3. how long until a video becomes popular (the fuzziest of fuzzy metrics)
4. what happens to video views as popularity peaks

For bloggers, now it becomes even more relevant to start publishing small video content along with the literary ones. Google has created a host of APIs (these are small programs that you can easily customize to integrate Google’s content with your website and blogs) and Blog Forums have created more plugins to integrate your videos on YouTube in your posts and blogs and website.
