Making Money by Blogging – Advertising & Affiliate Tactics for New Bloggers

Many people blog for fun, many people blog for the excitement of connecting with like minded people. There are also many people who use the blogging technology to make large internet incomes.

People show ads on their blogs, Google Adsense, or choose from a large number of advertising network.

The most common advertisers are the CPC advertisers & the Shopping Ads.

Many of the “leisure bloggers” who write for fun struggle to earn $100 a month from advertising. However, people who seriously write for money, make 6 figure income in this internet business model. How much you could make would depend on what you want to achieve by writing on blogs.

There is not much difference between writing in a blog and publishing on a standard website, expect that you could port your blog’s content easily to different places. This allows others people to find you easily.

New bloggers often struggle with the dilemma of choosing between advertising earning & affiliate marketing. I struggled with the same issue for months. Now, less than 10% of my income comes from advertising. But as a new blogger, advertising was close to 95% of my monthly internet income.

In the first couple of months I was earning about $100 from advertising, but my income grew very rapidly when I started affiliate marketing. And within months my income from the internet was close to $1000 a month. Not bad, considering I was writing for about 2 hours a day & that I could still work on my full time job.

It is perfectly all right if you have decided to make money just from advertising. You can still make thousands of dollars provided you have a large number of visitors coming to your website every month.

However, if your business model is affiliate marketing, it will take you a little longer to start making serious money, but when you do, it will be much more than what you could make from advertising. There are certain subtle differences in approach to affiliate marketing.

Especially when anyone & everyone can be an affiliate. Especially when you may not have anything more to offer to your readers & customers from the next affiliate.

I am a self made internet affiliate marketer. I have made several mistakes & learned from them. I also learned a lot by experimenting & reading a lot of books.

A successful affiliate marketing blog has to be compelling in many ways:

• extremely professional look & feel – that is, the theme should be designed to impress. We publish a lot of great free Wordpress themes for advertising blogs
• you need to have a networking strategy – not everyone in a network could be an ally in affiliate marketing. Many affiliates follow other competitor affiliates on twitter or through email subscriptions to be aware of what competition is offering
• your content has to be compelling enough for users to buy off your website. The “call to action” in your posts & pages have to be strong & effective
• your content has to be complete in all matters of the product or service you are marketing. If your information is incomplete, readers will simply move away to other places that provide more detailed information
• think for the buyer & write for the buyer – it is easy to copy the affiliate promotional material onto your blog. That is what most bloggers do & they all appear the same to the readers. If you are not different, do not expect to earn any more than the millions of other copy cats
• since affiliate sales include monetary transactions, providing a contact email or telephone number adds to the confidence of the buyer. However you have to respond to email & messages in time too. If you cannot help in any particular situation guide them to the right person. This is where many of the casual affiliate marketers lose out – they are just not serious enough
• read, read, read & read – read as many books as possible on internet marketing, read books written by successful internet affiliate marketers & read all about technology to make it work right for you
