Pangea & Pangea Day – Short Films, Live Music & Visionary Speakers

Share

It’s 4 straight hours of Short Films, Live Music and extra ordinary visions shared all across the world on May 10th 2008 , starting at 1800 GMT. The team has made every effort so that you would not miss the event – its available on locations, on TV, on the internet and even on mobile phones. The event will be broadcast live from six locations worldwide: Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro.

Pangea is about transformation. Pangea is about a wish come true. Pangea is about people getting together to make a small difference in the fragile state of the world. 24 short films have been selected from an international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from 100+ countries. They were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform, and help us see the world through another person’s eyes.

A few of the speakers wishing to make themselves heard include Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour , musician/activist Bob Geldof and Iranian rock phenom Hypernova are among the presenters taking part.

It all began with a 2006 TED wish of Jehane Noujaim , award-winning documentary filmmaker, and after the initial struggle, the grants were allocated. Knowing that people are divided by borders, race, religion, and conflict, but most of all by misunderstanding and mistrust, Jehane decided her wish would use the power of film to bring the world a little closer together, thus sowing the seeds for Pangea Day .

Here is a snippet from the 2006 TED wish from Jehane.
