Popular search engines statistics - which search engines are growing in popularity
The trend of search engines usage pattern has changes significantly in the past couple of years. While AOL and Yahoo were the strongest (and probably the most popular ones in early 2000), the new report from Compete shows that Google and Microsoft Live are emerging as the new leaders of today.

A few notable points from this graph:
- AOL popularity and usage shows a decline in this year (as much as over 9% decline)
- MSN Live Search is gaining in popularity. You should read this with some caution, since the total number of users of MSN Live is about a one eighth of that of Google or Yahoo and hence shows a bigger jump in usage.
- Google and Yahoo’s usage and popularity continues to be almost the same as in previous months.
Microsoft has integrated several utilities together when it rolled out the Live platform. It attempted to provide a single unified webpage, like a dashboard, that could help you see and work on your emails, look up news and sports, publish and read feeds etc. Google rolled out iGoogle too with the similar intents but with much lesser professional look and feel.
