Social Media for Business Advertising – Using Web 2.0 to Market your Business on Twitter Facebook & Audio Ads

There is a great article on Business Week on using social media to market your business. The main idea behind the article was to take Web 2.0 Social Media capabilities seriously & use systems like Twitter, Friendfeed & networking sites like Facebook & MySpace effectively.

The Business Week article focuses on six areas that a serious business owner should focus upon to get the maximum value in marketing their business. However, there is another definite area that I would like to highlight.

Micro-conversation or micro-blogging, as many of these services promote, is the next generation tool for collaboration & interaction. There are large sections of serious business owners who use any of these Web 2.0 online networking tools day in & day out. Google for one has been trying to understand these 140 letter conversations to display contextual ads.

GMail & Hotmail shows relevant ads on any of their pages. If you have noticed, the ads are fairly relevant to the texts that show up on any of these pages. There have been great improvements in finding more contextual ad logic.

Advertising on Social Media websites & tools are still not so popular yet. Facebook for one is encouraging people to show their ads on Facebook pages by enticing them with $25 free credits. Many of the business owners who have paid for ads on similar Web 2.0 Social Networking tools, have mixed results.
