Tips for New Bloggers – Posts that Bring High Traffic to Blogs
Share
There are two successful streams of articles that predominant among bloggers. One that talks about niche subjects & how to deep dive into them to drive serious readers to their blogs.
The other type of successful bloggers follow a more general path covering a variety of related topics.
The word "related" is important to create good readership & also create a balance in the writing. Otherwise, as a writer, your blogging could become monotonous. As an example, if you write about photography, "software" is a relevant topic, but "election" is not!
Since a larger portion of advertising revenue comes from search engines , writing something that people are searching for is common sense. However, you have to be cautious of which subject to pick & which one to let go.
Technorati published an extensive detailed view of the 2008 blogging scene . A few points are very interesting to look at:
- a large portion of the bloggers are college graduates
- a large portion of the bloggers are fully employed
- the subjects are more or less divided between personal expressions & professional blogs
Which ever topic you publish, unless you are in the media reporting business, popular topics are more to do with news & events. As an example, there were more blogs & articles posted prior to the Nikon D3, Nikon D300 & Nikon D700 launch , than after the camera hit the market.
There were blogs that were thriving on just publishing the rumors surrounding the release of the new Nikon model. Such blogs reported hypes, possible specifications & even pictures of the camera. If you are a niche blogger , such events could bring in a large number of readers to your blogs.
This works well for niche blogs since it gels well with the overall theme of the blog . However, if you run a technology blog & you write about the high profile elections, the effect could just be the opposite.
Writing about popular topics has its own risk – there are always better blogs out there, countless bloggers with more convincing posts & evidence than yours. Your blog will not even show up on search engines when you compare to the ones who only write in that niche!
Within your niche you have to know what tickles the pulse of the readers . In my case of photography, I knew the excitement prior to the release of the Nikon models. The lack of credible information, the anticipation of a new model & the articles running amok in other countries all fueled the popularity of the posts I mentioned above.
