From all the professional blogging softwares available, WordPress is still the best. It is best for someone who is starting off new, it is best for someone moving from Google Blogger and it is also the best blogging software for anyone who wants to run their own blog without having to pay.

Though Six Apart, the company that runs Live Journal & VOX Movable Type have formulated a commercial model to charge for almost the same features, and even though the Moveable Type software is free, running it is not as easy as Word Press.

This is a graph I picked up the first week of May 2008 from WordPress.Com on how they have grown in the last six months.

The fundamental aspect of WordPress is the team’s diligence to keep the Open Source Software Free. Unlike Six Apart who quickly came up with a monetizing plan to start selling similar open source code. In the US & to some extent in Europe, the cost of a paid blog is not that much of an issue, but then you are leaving out a huge demography where blogging could actually turn around the way in which people communicate. WordPress has revolutionized communication in Asia, Africa, earlier Russian provinces, Pacific countries where a lot of talent is available but not much of spending power.

The blogging software is far from perfect. Yet to come are the built in optimizations for searches, the packed themes that apply to personal blogging, magazine styles and news styles, adaption to mobile operation, complete integration with all the video technologies and standardized APIs for the popular tools and social networks.

Wordpress also has a free multi-user software. This requires some knowledge of PHP & SQL but the fact is, more to their tradition, they have kept the software platform free. Live Journal & Six Apart charges a lot of money for multi-user versions of their blogs! The multi-user version would allow anyone to set up a system much like Blogger or WordPress where you can offer individuals their own blogs. How unique is that!
